Yes to Brazilian Carnival at House of Yes? Yes to celebrating Clarice Lispector’s centennial in an 8h long party exploring the multitude of the Brazilian carnival? Or as we say, CarnAval? YES!

We say YES and we invite you to do the same. Get in your costumes and be ready to dance, a lot.

About

Saravá! Yes Carnaval will feature live music by the percussion groups Pandeiro Ensemble, Mambembé, Fogo Azul and the percussionist and Stomp performer Marivaldo dos Santos. The DJs Greg Caz, Mickey Pérez, Deo Jorge and Tahira (Brazil) will keep the crowd moving with the best of the Brazilian carnival beats.

CARNAVAL DANCE FEELINGS

February 20th, 2020

6-9 PM

Studio 353

353 West 48th Street, Studio 3

New York, NY 10036

No, you don’t have to master the steps from all carnival songs to have lots of fun at Saravá! Yes Carnaval. All you need to let go and enjoy is to get the feeling of the beat. If you feel you could use some help, join us on February 20th from 6-9 PM for the workshop Carnaval Dance Feelings. We’ll go over samba, frevo, coco e ciranda and close the night with a fun dance jam to really get the feeling of it all. Lead by Andressa Furletti, Debora Balardini, and Gio Mielle.

This is a donation-based workshop and we usually sold out quickly, we recommend reserving your spot as soon as tickets become available.

MAKE YOUR OWN MASK

February 18th and 19th

6:30PM - 8:30PM

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

You are more crafty than you think. All you need is a couple of evenings savoring some Brazilian treats as you create your own mask from scratch. There will be no right or wrong, just let your creativity loose and surprise yourself with the result. On the first night, we will create the base of the mask and on the second night, we will paint and decorate it.

Remember to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and potentially stained by paint. This workshop is open to all levels, no prior experience is necessary.

nature

In some Afro-Brazilian religions, Saravá is used as a mantra to invoke the force that moves nature. It can also be used as a greeting that would translate into “save your force” but also means "welcome".
